Recycling Your Old Cell Phones!

I don’t know about you, but I get a new cell phone every year or so. But do you know that old cell phone of yours can be recycled? Well it can be and if you don’t recycle it, it ends up in a landfill or worse incinerated where inbedded toxins will be released into the atmosphere. However, I have found a great program called “Cell Phones For Soldiers” where donated cell phones are sold to a recycling firm and the profits are in turn used to provide phone cards for deployed soldiers. It’s an easy way to both help the environment by recycling while at the same time giving a soldier who is serving our country a chance to call home. AT&T has 2,000 retail stores that are official drop-off locations, or you can go to www.cellphonesforsoldiers.com and print a pre-paid shipping label. The choice is yours, but think of it this way every cell phone that is donated helps a soldier call home to a loved one, not recycling just contributes to the destruction of the planet we all live in.

Will You Recycle? Poll #1

One of our first ideas on how to stimulate recycling at Cerritos College is to put out recycle bins next to every trashcan on campus. But, we want to know how effective this would be. So we’re asking you to take the following poll and/or to leave some suggestions in our comments section as to what YOU think might work.

Are we not recycling  because there isn’t a recycle bin within a reasonable distance or is it laziness and we don’t care either way?

You decide.
